What third-party testing actually covers
Not every seal means the same thing. A plain-language guide to common testing claims on supplement labels.
“Third-party tested” is a useful signal only when you know what was tested, by whom, and how recently. Identity, potency, and contaminant screening are different questions — a product can pass one and fail another.
Some programs audit manufacturing quality systems; others verify label claims for specific lots. Seals and membership logos are not interchangeable. When possible, read the program’s scope instead of assuming a general purity guarantee.
Ask for the underlying report when a claim matters to you. Transparent brands make batch documentation easy to find. Opaque brands often stop at a badge.
